The school year is winding down, which means less focus on work and more excitement for the summer. Reward your child’s work ethic with a trip to the movies with your family! Here’s a list of two films that hit theaters in early summer.
Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return
May 9th
The tale that we all know and love gets an animated reboot with Dorothy returning to Oz to save her group of friends. This time around, she’s not trying to get home, but rather help those who need her. This is a great lesson in friendship and lending a hand to those who need it. With a PG rating, the entire family can enjoy this twist on a classic story.
Maleficent
May 30th
Speaking of classic tales, Maleficent opens our eyes to the darker side of Sleeping Beauty. This prequel lends us the loaded backstory of Maleficent and explains why she was so keen on ruining Aurora’s life. Similar to Wicked, this movie focuses solely on the villain’s perspective, revealing a new story. This is PG-13, so it may not be suitable for your younger children. But you might have fun watching Sleeping Beauty beforehand as a refresher, or to get a better understanding of Maleficent’s character.
Not a fan of these summer flicks? You can always create your own theatre!
